No 13th Floor Here, Either BACK TO DATE PAGE
Here's the elevator control panel for the building where, four evenings a week, I go to the 12th floor for private Chinese lessons.  Count the floors from bottom left up and then start over on the bottom right--1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, (no 13?), 14.

No13th floor.  Sure looks familiar, and I can live with that...
...but what about this elevator control panel for the building where I live?  Count the floors from bottom to top--1, 2, 3, (no 4?), 5, 6 ,7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, (no 13 or 14?), 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, (no 24?), 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.  The simple elevator control has turned my 26-story building into one that towers to 30 floors.  Want to pay a premium to have a prestigious address that shows you live on the top floors above all those other shorter buildings?

When it came time for me to sign my lease, I thought I would be signing to live in apartment 1004.  That was certainly the number on the apartment door.  But, since there is no 4th floor in my building, I probably shouldn't 've questioned the accuracy of the lease paperwork when it referred to my apartment as 904.  I signed the lease for apartment 904 and moved into apartment 1004.
I understand no 13th floor, but I'm not sure what happened to the 4th floor, and I don't have a clue about the others.
