| I know it certainly doesn't look like anything special to you, but do you see that fish skeleton? It's lying there on the table in front of me. When Big Sister, our cook, who always sits to my right, noticed its 100% integrity, she brought it to everyone's attention and I was asked to lift it up and show it off. And I also learned how to say in Chinese: "I'm proud." You see, this is the first time I've actually managed to hold a battered, fried fish between two chopsticks and clean off the bones without breaking the skeleton. I need to share that I've been paranoid about fish bones ever since my maternal Grandmother used a spoon to free a smoked-fish bone from my throat. Grandma Charette, I think about you every time I eat fish that might have bones. |
