| I grew up playing a strategy game called "Chinese checkers" which had marbles to move around. These fellows are engrossed in a game of Chinese chess. |

| Apparently chess originated in India and moved both east and west. The Chinese chess board is made up of ten horizontal lines and nine vertical lines. The pieces are placed on the lines rather than in the squares like Western chess. And that's about all I know, other than that the pieces are round disks with different characters written on them to differentiate them. I see just as many men (and I've never seen a single woman) playing chess as cards in these little gatherings on the street. |
