She chose a shell at random and told us that we could have all the pearls inside it if we guessed the number correctly.  She'd already told us that there would be more pearls per shell than salt-water pearls, so maybe our highest guess was something like ten.

As you can see, our guess would've had to have been more like thirty before she would've had to have actually counted the pearls.
