Frosty the Snowman

The Chinese are no slouches when it comes to marketing.  Yes, that does say "Merry Christmas" over the doorway to the department store next to my apartment.

They even have a Santa that the children can be photographed with, but he looks pretty pitiful by our standards.  I had the impression that they had taken a Santa outfit that was designed for export to a 250-pound American, and had given it to a
tall 125-pound Chinese who used no belly padding.  I think the belt was wrapped around him at least twice.

The other day when I made my daily visit to the food store to pick up something to cook for dinner, "Frosty the Snowman" was playing over the loudspeaker system--yes, in English--followed by an entire medley of Christmas tunes.  I chuckled to myself when I heard some Chinese singing along to themselves.

Moments like these are when I don't feel that far away from home.  And when I appreciate that we humans are just one big family.
