| Lantern Festival, on the 15th day of the First Month of the Lunar Year, marks the end of the New Year Holidays. That was Thursday, February 21st. So I was expecting some fireworks, a late night, and a final respite. Little did I appreciate that this is not only the grand finale but the GRAND, GRAND, GRAND finale. I guess they're not about to store any remaining fireworks until next year. As you know, my apartment is actually on the eighth floor although it's called the tenth floor. Some of the building management staff lit fireworks in the parking lot outside the front door right below my apartment. And they exploded right at my level with what sounded like sand hitting my window but which really was the remnants of the rockets. There's no depth perception in these photographs, but the center of each blast was no more than thirty feet away. |
