| The Chinese year 4706 begins on February 7th. Chinese months are reckoned by the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day. Because of cyclical lunar dating, the first day of the year can fall anywhere between late January and the middle of February. To get really technical, and to make you stop and think a moment, the Chinese New Year day is the new moon day of the first lunar month. The first lunar month is the second lunar month after the lunar month containing the Winter Solstice, which is around December 23rd according to the Gregorian calendar (western calendar). |
