Shi Lao Ren is the Stone Old Man standing close offshore between Qingdao and Lao Shan.  As the story goes, he is awaiting the return of his daughter who left to wed the god of the sea.  The day I took these pictures, July 1st, was my opportunity to spend some good-bye time with the two high school students who had made it possible for me to meet several hundred of their classmates as a visiting native-English-speaker.  We went to a park dedicated to Shi Lao Ren to do a little hiking.

I don't think you'll be surprised to learn that our goal was the top of the mountain.
