| My daily life in Qingdao changed radically on the first Monday after the end of Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year). That was when I met with my Chinese tutor Amanda and agreed that the heavy demands of her brand new job would not allow her to continue to teach me Chinese. It was a sad agreement, because we had become friends through spending five hours a week together for two months plus the simple fact that we liked each other. | ||||||||||||||||||

| I spent several hours with Amanda and her husband this past Saturday. The friendship was still there. We started by meeting at Qingdao's largest bookstore to find a book for a young lady at my accountant's office who wants to learn English accounting terms. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Then we went to lunch and enjoyed dumplings. When my wife Karen comes here in May, we're going to go to their house for a dumpling-making lesson. I'm not certain who's the better cook--Amanda or her husband--but that doesn't really matter because they both seem to enjoy cooking and the food has always been delicious when I've eaten there. After lunch, I mentioned that I would like to walk around the Olympics campus because I hadn't done that yet. So off we set. |
